Hi everybody! I wish all of you a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I know these are challenging times for so many of us, if not everybody due to the worldwide pandemic. The vaccines are underway, we can probably enter a much better spring and summer, so I am positive in this respect. As for the turmoil and the terrifying upheaval in the US, I know this is not a true picture of my many American friends. Also, I know that when people go from being fed and content to being hungry and desperate, we all have the potential to becoming dangerous, no matter what nationality we come from.

Even if I live in a tiny peaceful corner of the world, yet not seriously struck by the pandemic, I can clearly feel the anxiety for what could happen. We too have right wing extremists, demonstrated in all its horror on the attack on Utøya a few years ago. It is very difficult to be creative in times like this, nevertheless, for myself it is even more important to stay sane. So, I picked up some large bottles of acrylic, a couple of boards, speckle, gesso and started to play during the holidays.

The photo shows the painting itself (about 84 x 58 cm), still under progress, followed by some closeups of same.

My friends, please stay safe and stay healthy, better times are coming 💕

Clarifying, finding my gems

So, here is one of my orange series, I have slowly started to get some sense out of them. My original plan was to fill them with glow and textures and smaller details of all sorts, obtained by glazing and sanding over and over again. That part I feel is now thoroughly done! Now comes the clarifying (or half way exploring) stages where I try to bring forward gems, and adding shapes which may attract the eye from a distance, at the same time trying to tweak the overall impression to a higher key. Working title so far: “Taking Shelter” 🥰

Clarifying, final touches

This is one more of my paintings in the “Memory Fragments” series. After many many rounds of glazing, sanding and glazing again, I finally begin for feel that this one is close to finished, just a few tweaks here and there before it is ready for the frame 😊

Set of four still in progress

More exploring, third round.I wondered what it was I wanted to express in this series, and found that I want glow, but not burning glow, instead a subtle muted glow with some more clear pops of it here and there. So, today I really went crazy and sanded down before glazing the entire surface with a warm-white very thin glaze. Next move will be more sanding to bring back some of the gems 😊

Set of four still under progress, exploring, taking risks, experimenting.

Explore second round.Today I started the process of pushing these towards a higher key. I am very satisfied with the colors, texture and complexity in the underpainting now, so my next move is to try to simplify and to lighten this series. Comments are very appreciated =)

Set of four under progress

Exploring and playing! Here is the set of four that I posted yesterday, somewhat darker in values. I didn’t plan them to look like this, all I wanted was to have more dark gems to play with before going higher key again. All paintings will be high key in the end, is the plan… 😅🤔🥰

“HAVING A BALL” work under progress

Clarifying, editing, checking values, checking shapes, colors, marks and pops of saturation. This painting has gone through some total transformations, it really is strange, I started a series of 7 landscapes a while ago, but as I’ve been working with glazing and sanding and glazing again to get depths and light into my work, it just said stop! I believe working with landscapes, even if abstracted, makes me very restrained and tensed in my approach, at least in the end it does. So this series will be high key and abstract instead! Here is the first one, still under progress but getting pretty close to finished I believe. All comments are very appreciated, may I ask for your first impression? Title so far: “HAVING A BALL”

EXPLORING painting under progress

GOING HIGH KEY AND GOING ABSTRACT, WHICH I HAVE BEEN MISSING A LOT

Exploring, I mean really exploring this time. I decided in a blink of a second that I wanted to go high key, it has been many mid-tone and darker landscapes lately, I wanted to go light and I wanted to go abstract! So, this is today’s total transformation of yesterday’s exploration. Also attaching some closeups. I feel much better now doing something drastic, comments are much appreciated 😅🥰
