PLAY stage, encaustic under-painting.

PLAY

New paintings under the making, they will all be part of my encaustic experimentation. After gluing down white mixed media paper on plywood, I was ready for initial play with dry medium (charcoal, inctense pencils, contè crayons and pastel crayons, yes and a bit of water) Next step will include molten wax, excited to see what will happen. But first of all, there need to be cradles under the panels and all the edges need to be trimmed 🧐🙃🥰

The following pictures are enaustic on paper from a couple of days ago, not finished but they have a freshness to them that I like, will see what happens in the next session!

GOING ENCAUSTIC

Hi dear followers and friends, I haven’t been posting for a long time because life happened, as it sometimes does. After quite some time of recuperating and reorienting into a new way of living I am now thankfully back painting. I am super thrilled to share with you that I have begun to explore the glorious mystery of encaustic. So far, this is clear: There will be melted a whole lot of wax on my deck this summer because this was even more exciting than I anticipated.

In the following I am sharing a small collection of what I have been working on so far, as always there is a lot to learn, a lot of tools and supplies to get hold of, and a lot of trying and failing. Here is a little taste of what I am talking about, and there will be much more to come.

Set of four still in progress

More exploring, third round.I wondered what it was I wanted to express in this series, and found that I want glow, but not burning glow, instead a subtle muted glow with some more clear pops of it here and there. So, today I really went crazy and sanded down before glazing the entire surface with a warm-white very thin glaze. Next move will be more sanding to bring back some of the gems 😊

Set of four under progress

Exploring and playing! Here is the set of four that I posted yesterday, somewhat darker in values. I didn’t plan them to look like this, all I wanted was to have more dark gems to play with before going higher key again. All paintings will be high key in the end, is the plan… 😅🤔🥰

Two heading to finished, and 7 new play stages.

Hi all! I hope you are hanging in there in the midst of this very challenging time! Luckily we are not very affected here in Norway, so for me life is just about normal except for when I need to go shopping, which I don’t like doing anyways! So, here is the last weeks work, starting with 2 on the clarify stage, they will be pushed till higher key, slowly and thoughtfully! The next set of 7 is the result of me mixing too much medium and clear gesso for another project. In kind of a panic, I just got hold of some plywood boards, squeezed out a little Cyan, a little Yellow and some Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide because these bottles were closest at hand and started new play in a hurry hurry hurry, which was absolutely not planned and therefore double fun! In other words, not a drop of medium was spilled, but instead I have a lot of new play stages to pile up with all the rest of the play stages waiting for me 😅🙃😱🤪
